(120 UNITS)

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a rigorous, contemporary and calculus based curriculum that is responsive to future developments and the diversity of the chemical sciences, thus enabling students to become successful chemists, scientifically literate citizens and leaders. The curriculum provides a strong background in the fundamental areas of chemistry and inlcudes advance topics in many disciplines of chemistry.  An emphasis is on the hands-on approach, where students learn by doing and results in an authentic research experience. The degree prepares students for scientific careers, graduate studies or professional programs. The degree is approved by the American Chemical Society and ideal for students who desire an advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in chemistry. It also provides excellent preparation for those individuals in pre-professional programs (e.g. forensic science, business administration, law) or those interested in teaching careers.

Students who complete the Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and include an advanced chemistry elective and a biochemistry course (CHEM 423A  or CHEM 421 ) may qualify for a degree certification by the American Chemical Society.

In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree  section in this catalog for complete information.
