Introduction
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is committed to providing solid academic programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering. It strives to combine the best facilities along with a driven faculty and an innovative curriculum to prepare students for the significant engineering challenges of the 21st century.
Degree Descriptions
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (abet.org). The program provides students with a strong theoretical and practical background in both the hardware and software of modern computing platforms, along with the engineering analysis, design and implementation skills necessary to work between the two. The curriculum is based on an engineering philosophy, emphasizing hardware more than software. The computer engineering program is designed to develop students’ ability to apply knowledge from design and analysis to the practice of computer engineering in an effective and professional manner. The topics integrated into the curriculum include computer organization and architecture, processor interfacing techniques, digital systems design using VHDL and Verilog, advanced electronics, cyber-physical and intelligent systems, artificial intelligence and embedded systems design. The elective courses required by the program allow students to specialize in key engineering technology and computer science areas. The program also requires two semesters of a multidisciplinary senior design project.
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (abet.org). The program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in electrical engineering principles and modern technological applications. it covers areas, including VLSI and electronic circuits, computing and embedded systems, AI-enabled hardware, signal processing and communications, sensing and controls, and power systems. The program develops students’ abilities to apply knowledge from design and analysis to the practice of electrical engineering in an effective and professional manner. This knowledge can be applied to various engineering practices in aerospace, computer, electrical, electronics and other applied fields.
The Master of Science in Computer Engineering provides students a strong understanding of the hardware design and practical applications of modern computing platforms. The courses in contemporary and highly evolving computer engineering areas provide students with extensive hardware design and modeling experience, exposure to state-of-the-art Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and the ability to design and analyze today’s modern computer systems. Students are also encouraged to take courses from the graduate program in Computer Science and key courses in Electrical Engineering to expand their background. After completing the degree program, graduates will have extensive theoretical knowledge and practical background in all aspects of modern computing platforms, along with in-depth knowledge in engineering analysis, design, implementation and testing. The program prepares students for engineering careers that require computer hardware skills.
The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering provides advanced knowledge and technical competency in key areas of electrical engineering, including communications and signal processing, robotics and control systems, embedded systems and computer engineering, and circuits, electronics and VLSI design. The program incorporates emerging directions, such as AI-driven signal processing, intelligent control systems, autonomous systems and smart sensing technologies, aligning with current research and industry needs. Students develop advanced analytical, modeling and system design skills through coursework and research-oriented projects. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in industry, research and advanced technology development.
The blended Civil Engineering B.S. + M.S. offers students an accelerated pathway to advanced education while preserving the rigor, depth and comprehensive curriculum of the standalone B.S. and M.S. programs.
