Electrical Engineering B.S. + M.S.

(138 UNITS)

The Electrical Engineering B.S. + M.S., a blended program that shortens the time required to earn a B.S. and M.S., provides students with enriched learning experiences through advanced coursework and research opportunities in key technical areas in Electrical Engineering, such as Microelectronics and VLSI, Embedded Systems, Communications, Signal Processing, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cyber and Hardware Security as well as Robotics.

Courses in contemporary and highly evolving areas provide extensive design and modeling experience, exposure to state-of-the-art tools, and the ability to design and analyze modern electrical, electronics, communication and computing systems. The program integrates pertinent science, mathematics, and engineering courses to develop engineers capable of addressing real-world challenges effectively and professionally. Emphasizing hands-on learning through laboratory work and project-based courses, students apply theoretical concepts to practical applications, fostering innovation and critical thinking. This blended approach equips graduates with comprehensive knowledge and technical skills needed to excel in the rapidly evolving field of Electrical Engineering, preparing them for leadership roles in industry, research, and academia.

In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree section in the catalog for complete information. For university requirements regarding the master’s degree, please consult the Graduate Regulations section in this catalog for complete information.

Admission Requirements

Students must apply for the blended B.S. + M.S. degree program before completing the undergraduate requirements of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and meet the CSU requirements for admission to a master’s degree program.

  • Completed a minimum of 60 undergraduate units but not more than 120 undergraduate units.
  • Not currently in the semester in which they will complete the baccalaureate degree requirements.
  • Completed a minimum 12 upper-division units in residence.
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Minimum 3.0 major GPA.

    Additional Information: Blended Program

Double counted courses cannot be substituted. Please consult the Blended Programs section in this catalog for more information.

The following courses may be double counted to satisfy 12 units towards the bachelor’s degree and 12 units towards the master’s degree:

    Degree Requirements

Students are required to meet periodically with their academic adviser to track their academic progress. All courses taken in fulfillment of the requirements for the bachelor’s degree must be taken for a letter grade. All mathematics and physical science courses required for the bachelor’s degree must be completed with a “C-” (1.7) or better to count as credit towards the degree. Graduate courses may not be open to undergraduate students without approval of the program coordinator. All graduate courses must be passed with a “C” or better grade and at least a 3.0 overall GPA.

    Note:

    * Must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better.

    M.S. Degree Requirements (30 units)

A minimum of 15 units must be at the 500 level.

    Specialty Areas (18-24 units)

Select from the areas below. Other courses may be chosen with departmental graduate adviser approval.

    Electives (6 units)

Courses taken to satisfy the required courses will not count toward the electives. Other courses may be chosen with department graduate adviser approval.

    Culminating Experience (0-6 units)

The culminating experience marks the end of a graduate program. It demonstrates mastery of disciplinary materials and meets requirements from Section 40510 of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations. Please consult the Culminating Experience section in this catalog for more information.

Students must complete a study application form and submit it for approval to the supervising faculty member and department chair prior to the semester in which the coursework is to begin.

    Note

    * Includes a final comprehensive examination on coursework.

    ** Must complete 6 units.

    † Must complete satisfactorily.

    General Education

All students at Cal State Fullerton are expected to complete prescribed units of General Education that are made up of courses outside of their chosen disciplines. Students seeking a degree in Engineering have been provided exceptions from some of the General Education requirements. For this reason, it is important that students take the approved G.E. courses for Engineering majors that are found in their Titan Degree Audit (TDA). Additionally, they should confirm the G.E. courses that are required within their specific programs with their respective advisers.

    Upper-Division Writing Requirement (6 units)

Written work for the following must meet professional standards. All courses must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better.
