The Early Childhood Education (ECE) minor is for students who are interested in ECE permits, potentially those pursuing the PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential, as well as those who are interested in focusing on young children in general. Courses emphasize: children’s early development and learning; strategies to engage in developmentally appropriate practices; creating early childhood environments rich in language, literacy and other foundational skills; observation and assessment; family engagement; and culturally competent work with young children and their families.
All courses must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better. A minimum of 12 units for the minor must be distinctive from coursework applied to the major; a minimum of 6 units of upper-division coursework must be completed for the minor.
