Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies offers an interdisciplinary education in the arts and humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, together with rigorous training in critical thinking and argumentative writing. It thus establishes a secure foundation for any profession that requires general knowledge and prizes independent and creative thought. The program’s graduates have been successful in education, law, management, non-profit and various entrepreneurial activities. Liberal Studies very effectively prepares students to obtain a multiple subject teaching credential and to pursue a variety of graduate degrees. Forming a diverse community and taking multiple perspectives, Liberal Studies students become well-rounded persons and life-long learners. In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. * Transfer students satisfy this requirement by completing the lower-division G.E. category. ** Fulfills the university upper-division writing requirement. Sequence of Core Courses
Because the core curriculum is designed as an integrated whole and builds upon the student’s general education, there is an order in which these courses need to be taken and there are certain prerequisites for them. LBST 300 and LBST 302A/LBST 302B come first. LBST 302A is a prerequisite for LBST 302B. LBST 302B and LBST 301 are prerequisites for LBST 303, LBST 304, LBST 305. LBST 401 and the Senior Seminar come last. LBST 401 requires the completion of LBST 304 and either LBST 303 or LBST 305. The Senior Seminar requires senior standing and 90 units of college work. Special Education Concentration (18 units)
The Special Education concentration supports students who plan to enter an education specialist teaching credential program and pursue a career in teaching populations with special support needs; thus, enhancing their knowledge of special needs populations and special education settings. Graduation Requirement (3 units)
