Master of Science in Information Systems
The Master of Science in Information Systems provides students with the technical skills and business acumen that are necessary for organizations to effectively manage and capitalize on their information assets. Broadly, the MSIS curriculum provides opportunities to develop knowledge and applied skills in the areas of information systems management, decision sciences and business analytics, all of which are highly valued by modern organizations. Students will be well prepared to meet the growing demand for analytics professionals who can work with and extract valuable insights from big data. Collectively, graduates from the program are able to perform a wide variety of job functions, including managing and capitalizing on new and existing technologies, aligning organizational strategies with technological strategies and using quantitative methods, data analysis and data visualization in order to inform and improve organizational decision-making. Admission Requirements
Admission is competitive. Students must meet all CSU requirements for admission to a master’s degree program. Please consult the Graduate Admissions section in the university catalog for complete information. Rapid Admission Pathway
Applicants with a degree from an AACSB-accredited business program (in any country) or STEM program in the United States, are eligible for rapid admission to the MSBA program for a period of up to three years from their date of most recent degree conferral if they meet the following criteria: - Overall GPA of 3.0 or better in most recent completed degree.
- A “B” (3.0) or better in a university-level calculus class.
- A “B” (3.0) or better in statistics or data analysis class at an upper-division undergraduate or graduate level.
Standard Admission Pathway
Applicants who are not eligible for the rapid admission pathway will be evaluated based on all of the following criteria:
- A degree in business or STEM-related field, or two years of professional work experience in a business-related position.
- Satisfactory GPA in the most recent completed degree. Preferential admission will be given to applicants who have a GPA of 3.0 for better.
- Completing the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required, but preferential admission will be given to applicants who have taken either GMAT or GRE exams, or pass INFORMS Certified Analytics Professional Essentials Certificate (CAP-E).
- Recommendation from the Information Systems and Decision Sciences admission committee, based on a review of the above requirements, the student’s Statement of Purpose and prior education and work experience.
- English Language Proficiency: for applicants whose education was not at a majority English-language country, please review the Office of Admissions website for specific program exam requirements and benchmarks.
Conditional Admission Pathway
Applicants who do not meet the requirements for either the rapid or standard admission can be granted “conditional admission” with the following criteria: - Recommendation from the ISDS Admission Committee based upon a review of the student’s Statement of Purpose and prior education and work experience.
- English Language Proficiency: for applicants whose education was not at a majority English-language country, please review the Office of Admissions website for specific program exam requirements and benchmarks.
After conditional admission to the program, the student will subsequently be granted classified graduate standing upon completion of either GMAT or GRE exams and score in the 50th percentile or above, or passing of INFORMS Certified Analytics Professional Essentials Certificate (CAP-E). This requirement should be completed before or within four months of starting the program. Degree Requirements (18 units)
A minimum 21 of the 30 units required for the Master of Science in Information Systems degree must be at the 500 level. Note:

Must pass with a “B” (3.0) or better. Must be taken in the last semester or after completing seven ISDS courses in the program. Business Analytics Concentration (12 units)
Business analytics is the field that lies at the intersection of business and data science. The business analytics concentration prepares the next generation of business analytics professionals to perform and use explanatory and predictive modeling and statistical and quantitative analysis of big data sets as foundations for fact-based management and effective decision-making. Business analytics professionals contribute to developing organizational processes, products and marketing strategies by utilizing their skills in database design, data processing, data analysis, problem solving and inference. 0-3 units from the following:
