Master of Science in Education


(30 UNITS)

The Master of Science in Education is tailored for educators seeking to enhance their expertise and advance their careers. The curriculum emphasizes educational research, multicultural curriculum development, social justice foundations and critical arts education in urban communities. Graduates are prepared to address diverse educational challenges, promote equity and drive innovation as educational leaders in their communities. Ideal for educators committed to impactful and inclusive practices.

Admission to Graduate Standing - Conditionally Classified


Students must meet the CSU requirements for admission to a master’s degree program. Please consult the Graduate Admissions  section in this catalog for complete information.

Graduate Standing - Classified


A student who meets the admission requirements and the following requirements may be granted classified graduate standing:

  • Develop an approved study plan.
  • Basic teaching credential or equivalent experience.
  • Approved major (minimum of 24 units upper division or graduate).
  • Cumulative grade-point average of 3.0, or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 units.

Credit will be given for previous postbaccalaureate studies when possible. Otherwise well-qualified students may be admitted with limited subject or grade deficiencies, but these deficiencies must be removed.

Culminating Experience (3 units)


The culminating experience marks the end of a graduate program. It demonstrates mastery of disciplinary materials and meets requirements from Section 40510 of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations. Please consult the Culminating Experience section in this catalog for more information.

Bilingual/Bicultural Education Concentration (12 units)


The Bilingual/Bicultural concentration prepares qualified educators to work with multilingual students by developing their understanding of bilingualism, biculturalism and social justice in education, and providing them with effective teaching techniques and methods.
