(120 UNITS)

The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology prepares students for advanced degrees in anthropology, as well as for positions in the private and public sector. Social service, marketing research, museum work, health professions, cultural resources management, primate conservation and international development are some of the areas that offer many opportunities for anthropology graduates.

In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree  section in this catalog for complete information. A “C” (2.0) average and a “C-” (1.7) or better is required in all courses applied to the major.

Breadth Requirements (18 units)


Select one 300-level and one 400-level course from each category.

Electives (12 units)


Select from any core above or from courses below. A minimum 6 units must be 400-level ANTH courses. Under certain circumstances, up to six units may be selected from related disciplines with the approval of the adviser or department chair,.

Upper-Division Writing Requirement (3 units)


Must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better.

Total (120 units)
