Admission Procedures and Criteria

Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA (cumulative or last 60 semester units) and have completed their bachelor’s degree to apply to the program. The application review process allows the department to consider experiences, attributes and other academic metrics, as well as the value an applicant would contribute to learning and teaching. Applications are open for fall semester start only. The application cycle opens October 1 for the following fall term. Check the Multiple Subject Credential and Combined Program Admissions website for details and application procedures and deadline.

Applicants for admission into the program are evaluated at several transition points, measuring candidates’ progress toward meeting program outcomes as outlined in the College of Education’s conceptual framework. Specifically, these include knowledge (scholarship, breadth of understanding), skills (professional aptitude, physical and mental fitness) and dispositions (character).

Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be met and submitted before an application is considered complete. Only complete files are reviewed for admission into the program.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• 3.00 GPA in the last 60 semester units.
• Official transcripts from all the institutions attended.
• Successful completion of: CAS 101 , CAS 312 , CAS 315 , CAS 325A , CAS 325B  or PSYC 361 ; EDEL 315  and EEDEL 325 ; and an approved Ethnic Studies course.
• Certificate of Clearance from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) by the time of application.
• Two- to three-page JEIE Admission Statement.
• Evidence of a recent TB test (within last four years).
• Mandatory Overview Attendance.
• Program Application fee.
• Verification of Basic Skill Requirement (BSR).
• Verification of Subject Matter Requirement (SMR).
• Two academic faculty recommendations.
• Pre-Program Field Experience Form.
• CPR Training certification - Candidates must complete CPR Training offered by the American Heart Association (Heart Saver) or the American Red Cross. Training must cover infant, child and adult. Evidence of CPR training must be current (within 2 years).
• U.S. Constitution course or exam.
• English Language Proficiency: for applicants whose education was not at a majority English-language country. Please review the Office of Admissions website for specific program exam requirements and benchmarks.

Degree Requirements

The Combined Multiple Subject Credential and Curriculum and Instruction Master of Science is a full-time, 16-month (60 units) program completed in four semesters (including summer). The program includes some online and hybrid courses (sample schedule below).
