Child and Adolescent Development, Option in Early Childhood Development, B.S.

Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Development


The Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Development requires 51 units of major coursework. All majors complete the nine-unit basic core courses. In addition, majors choose one of four options that each include 42 units of coursework. The options allow students to focus on the population and context in which they are interested: Adolescent/Youth Development; Early Childhood Development; Elementary School Settings; and Family and Community Contexts.

A “C” (2.0) or better is required in all courses applied to the major. Course prerequisites are strictly enforced.

Option in Early Childhood Development (42 units)


The option in Early Childhood Development (ECD) provides advanced understanding of cognitive, physical and social-emotional development, from conception through age eight. It is designed for students preparing to work with young children and their families and/or pursue graduate studies in early childhood education, development, mental health or related fields.
