(24-25 UNITS)

The Pre-Health Professions minor prepares Cal State Fullerton students of all majors for advanced study in a health professional program. The minor provides students who are non-science majors with a structured pathway to complete several prerequisite science courses, and offers science majors the opportunity to complete coursework in the social sciences, population health, and cross-cultural studies. More than one quarter of CSUF students admitted each year to medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry, and physician assistant schools are not traditional science majors. Coupled with advising and assistance during the professional school application process, the minor will enhance the competitiveness of pre-health students for matriculation into health profession schools.

Study Plan (24-25 units)

In addition to completing the prerequisites for the minor, students must meet with the Health Professions advisor and prepare an academic plan to guide their course choices and path towards graduation.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to stay in the minor. Furthermore, students must earn a “B” (3.0) or better in all courses that are taken for the minor. This requirement is necessary for students to have a competitive GPA for successful matriculation into professional schools. If a student’s cumulative GPA drops below a 3.0, the student will be notified and allowed to remain in the program for a single semester. Students who fail to raise their cumulative GPA to above a 3.0 will be dropped from the program. Once dropped from the program, a student can appeal to the Health Professions Committee for reinstatement once their cumulative GPA is above 3.0. Students may also petition to replace a required course in which they received a grade lower than a B -. Typically the replacement course must be a more advanced course in the same department.

All students in the minor must take the 24-25 units, below, with the following stipulations: (a) at least 12 units must be unique to the minor; and (c) 6 of the 12 unique units must be upper-division courses.

Population Health and Cross-Cultural Studies (6 units)
