Bachelor of Science in Human Services


The Bachelor of Science in Human Services offers undergraduate preparation for study and careers in mental health and counseling, social work, community organization and planning, policy analysis, administration of human services agencies, gerontology and elementary school teaching. In addition to the general B.S. in Human Services degree, the program offers concentrations in Addiction Studies, Mental Health and Elementary Education.

In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree  section in this catalog for complete information. Students must earn a “C” (2.0) or better in all courses in the major. It is the their responsibility to consult the department academic adviser at least once during each of the first two semesters on campus to develop a study plan related to their specialization.

Community College Transfer Students


Community college transfer students may apply a maximum of 12 units of coursework in human services and related fields towards the total of 54 units. The 12 transferable units are included in the 70-unit maximum of total transferable units. Transfer of any units must be approved by the department adviser. For transfer students with a relevant certificate, up to 18 units of coursework in human services may be applied to the total of 54 units.
