(120 UNITS)

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics provides analytical insights into the problem of allocating limited resources among competing uses given a technological and institutional context. The degree provides a thorough understanding at the micro and macro levels. Students learn to think analytically and critically about social and economic issues; and to communicate coherently about local, national and global issues. The program allows students to learn how to use and interpret economic literature and data.

Students who apply are initially classified as Pre-economics. After completing the lower-division core requirements with a “C” (2.0) or better, they may apply to the Economics major. Pre-economics students may take lower-division business and economics courses, but most upper-division courses are not open to them.

In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree  section in this catalog for complete information. Students must earn a “C” (2.0) or better in all courses applied toward the degree. However, a “C” (2.0) average will be acceptable in the upper-division economics electives.
