For incoming students with no prior experience or course work in French, the Bachelor of Arts in French consists of 52 units: 16 units of lower-division (e.g. 100- and 200-level) French course work, plus 36 units of upper-division (e.g. 300- and 400-level) course work, including the upper-division writing requirement (MLNG 301 ). Depending on prior experience, course work and/or demonstrated proficiency in the language, some or all lower-division course work may be waived. Students should consult with a French adviser to be placed in the appropriate course(s) (please refer to the French Advisement page).
