Mechanical properties of materials. Stress and strain. Elastic, plastic and thermal deformation, and failure criteria. Stress-strain relationships, stress-strain transformation, principal stresses, Mohr’s circle. Analysis and design of beams for bending. Buckling of columns. Pressure vessels.

Prerequisites: CHEM 120A or CHEM 123; EGCE 201, MATH 250A.
