Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Studies requires 51 units of major coursework. All majors complete 27 units of core courses. In addition, majors choose one of four concentrations that each include 24 units of coursework. The concentrations allow students to focus on the population and context in which they are interested: Adolescent/Youth Development; Early Childhood Development; Elementary School Settings; and Family and Community Contexts.
In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree section in this catalog for complete information. A “C” (2.0) or better is required in all courses applied to the major. Course prerequisites are strictly enforced.
Family and Community Contexts Concentration (24 units)
The Family and Community Contexts (FCC) concentration is for students planning to work with children, adolescents, and their families in community-based settings and/or preparing for graduate studies in human/child development, counseling, social work or related fields. A maximum 9 units of lower-division courses may be taken. A minimum 9 units must be CAS courses.
