(36 UNITS)

The Master of Science in Environmental Studies offers interdisciplinary breadth to students in preparation for careers as environmental professionals. Students have access to faculty expertise in the natural sciences, engineering, social and behavioral sciences, business and economics, the arts and humanities.

Admission to Graduate Standing - Conditionally Classified

Students must meet the CSU requirements for admission to a master’s degree program. Please consult the Graduate Admissions section in this catalog for complete information. In addition, the program requires a grade-point average of 3.0 in the last 60 units of coursework attempted.

Because the program accepts students as a cohort, the size of the cohort will limit the number of applicants accepted.

Applicants’ completion of courses in ecology, environmental engineering, natural sciences, and/or quantitative methods is helpful but not required. Students lacking foundational coursework may be admitted provisionally and can work with the Environmental Studies graduate adviser to take foundational courses on their own.

Graduate Standing - Classified

After completing no more than 13 semester units of adviser approved coursework and developing an approved study plan, a student will be granted classified standing.
