Law, Politics and Society Minor

(18 UNITS)

The Law, Politics and Society minor provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of the law, law’s effect on society and how social forces impact the legal system. Students learn how to: read, interpret and analyze legal writing; assess the design, actions and motivations of legal institutions, such as the courts, juries and the legal profession; explain how historical, political and cultural factors impact the development of law and concepts of justice, including serving as social control and norm and status quo enforcement; evaluate how law and the legal system differentially impact people based on race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexuality and religion; and learn to apply the above in their own analysis of the legal, political and social phenomena they encounter.

A 2.0 G.P.A. is required for the minor.
