Introduction

University Extended Education (UEE) partners with academic units to create and administer non-state-funded programs that extend the University’s resources into the community and around the world. UEE administers degree programs; academic credit courses; certificate programs for professional development; programs and courses for educators; the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute; and summer classes for children and teens.

Degree Program and Degree Credit Courses

Winter Session

Winter Session provides further opportunity to complete courses and make progress toward graduation. It is held in December and January between the fall and spring semesters and includes many face-to-face, online and hybrid courses.

Students can view the Winter Session class schedule in Titan Online in late September, and registration begins by appointment in late October.

Summer Session

Summer Session provides an opportunity to complete courses required for graduation. Classes are offered in face-to-face, online and hybrid formats. CSUF students can view the class schedule in Titan Online in late March, and registration begins by appointment in early April.

Open University

Open University provides an opportunity for people not currently admitted to Cal State Fullerton to enroll in undergraduate and graduate level classes on a space available basis during all academic terms (fall/spring/summer). Registration is available to members of the general public, designated international students and students academically disqualified from CSUF.

Verification of English skill is required for any individual, regardless of citizenship, who has not attended, for at least three years, a school at the secondary level or beyond in which English was the principal language of instruction. Such students are required to score at or above the minimums on the Test of English as Foreign Language TOEFL): 500 (PBT) or 6.1 (iBT) or 5.5 (IELTS). Verification of test scores must be presented when registering.

Registration is provided on a space available basis after priority registration of admitted students. A maximum of 24 credit units earned through Open University may count toward the cumulative units needed for a bachelor’s degree at CSUF. Credits earned through Open University may not be used to fulfill the residence requirement (30 units for the degree; 24 units in upper division courses; and 12 upper division units in the major). For graduate degrees at CSUF, typically up to nine units of approved credits taken through Open University may apply, but for degrees which require more than 30 units, more units of credit may apply. Please consult the graduate adviser of the program for further clarification on this.

Self-Support Degree Programs

University Extended Education administers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in partnership with Cal State Fullerton academic departments and colleges. These programs are self-supporting and have characteristics that differentiate them from their state-supported counterparts, including different or condensed class schedules, and/or are cohort-based.

Professional Development Programs

Professional development programs and classes provide opportunities for career advancement and are connected to workforce needs. Programs combine academic content and practical, real-world training applicable to the workplace. Certificates may be awarded upon program completion.

Programs for Educators

University Extended Education works closely with the College of Education to offer professional development opportunities for K-12 educators and administrators.

Instructional Design and Global Engagement Online

The Instructional Design and Global Engagement Online unit designs, develops and maintains engaging online collaborations, courses and programs. A quality online learning experience is ensured through the application of sound pedagogy and proven instructional methods coupled with the latest technologies and exemplary student and instructor support.

Summer Programs for Children and Teens

University Extended Education offers one- and two-week summer programs for children and teens each summer. Art Camp provides opportunity for participants aged 7-14 to explore a variety of art forms such as drawing, printmaking, painting and musical theater. Older students broaden their artistic perception and skill level with more advanced projects. In addition, shorter classes in such topics as geometry, algebra and writing are also offered. All classes are held at the Fullerton campus.

Learning in Retirement

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) develops and delivers classes for individuals who are retired, semi-retired or approaching retirement age to promote an active, healthy life. Programs include self-directed study groups, educational lectures, discussion groups, computer education, arts workshops, physical activities, special events, social activities and travel opportunities. Select classes, including Transitions in Retirement Essentials, are open to the public.
