Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology
The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology provides a broad, comprehensive study of physical activity and human movement. Students observe and studiy movement across the lifespan from mechanical, physiological, psychological, sociocultural, behavioral, instructional and professional points of view. Focused concentration areas provide additional background knowledge and preparation for advanced study or professional careers in allied health and medicine, exercise science, gerokinesiology, physical education, recreation and physical activity promotion, sport studies, and strength and conditioning. In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree section in this catalog for complete information. All courses in the major, including prerequisites, must be completed with a “C” (2.0) or better, and must be taken on an Option 1 (letter grade) basis. Kinesiology courses with the “junior or senior standing” prerequisite require students to have completed a minimum of 55 units. Intercollegiate sport courses may be completed with the Credit/No Credit option. Prerequisite Requirements for the Major (9 or 10 units)

Students in the Teacher Education concentration intending to pursue the SMPP-PE are strongly advised to to take KNES 240 , KNES 241 , KNES 242 and KNES 243 (consult adviser for details).

The Teacher Education concentration provides coursework that meets a portion of the requirements for the Subject Matter Preparation Program (SMPP), which prepares students to enter a Single Subject Credential Program in physical education. In addition to the 51-unit requirement for the Kinesiology degree and the Teacher Education concentration, students who wish to pursue a single-subject teaching credential in physical education must also complete the SMPP requirements.
