The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction helps career classroom teachers prepare for curriculum and instructional leadership in one or more of the following areas: elementary classroom teaching; social justice for meeting the strengths and needs of diverse learners; early childhood education; math/science education. Students may follow the study plan for a concentration, or elect to specialize in curriculum and instruction.

Graduate Standing - Classified
A student who meets the admission requirements and the following requirements may be granted classified graduate standing:
develop an approved study plan
basic teaching credential or equivalent experience
approved major (minimum of 24 units upper division or graduate)
cumulative grade-point average of 3.0, or 3.0 GPA in the last 60 units
Credit will be given for previous postbaccalaureate studies when possible. Otherwise well-qualified students may be admitted with limited subject or grade deficiencies, but these deficiencies must be removed.
The culminating experience marks the end of a graduate program. It demonstrates mastery of disciplinary materials and meets requirements from Section 40510 of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations. Please consult the Culminating Experience section in this catalog for more information.
The Early Childhood concentration meets the greater community and professional needs for quality education during the critical early years of school. The educational demand for sound planning and instruction in preschool, kindergarten and the primary grades calls for effective specialists in early childhood education.
