Engineering Management, M.S.

The College of Engineering and Computer Science, in cooperation with the College of Business and Economics, offers an interdisciplinary Master of Science degree in Engineering Management (MSEM). The degree is for working engineers and professionals who are in leadership or management positions, or who are planning to advance their careers into technical enterprises management. It will also benefit engineering or science graduates interested in assuming leadership positions in the industry.

Program Requirements


The Master of Science in Engineering Management is a year-round, 30-unit degree program to be completed in 21-months – two courses per semester. The course schedule is based on the 16-week semester in the fall and spring, and one 10-week summer session. In addition, students will be required to attend and complete a mandatory orientation prior to beginning the program and a mid-point symposium to review their progress toward completing the final project and for continued authentication of their work.

Admission Requirements


Students must meet the CSU requirements for admission to a master’s degree program. Please consult the Graduate Admissions section in this catalog for complete information. 

In addition, students must meet the following departmental admission requirements:

  1. Completed a baccalaureate degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or have completed equivalent academic preparation in above areas as determined by the department;
  2. Attained a minimum grade point average (GPA) in an acceptable earned baccalaureate degree program or a minimum GPA in the last 60 semester units (90 quarter units) attempted as follows:
    • minimum GPA of 2.5 for applicants with engineering or computer science baccalaureate degree from either a U.S. institution or ABET-accredited international institution
    • minimum GPA of 3.0 for applicants with Bachelor’s degree from non-ABET-accredited international Institution
  3. Meet any additional program requirements. See Engineering Management admissions.

Culminating Experience (3 units)


The culminating experience marks the end of a graduate program. It demonstrates mastery of disciplinary materials and meets requirements from Section 40510 of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations. Please consult the Culminating Experience section in this catalog for more information.
