Bachelor of Arts in Geography

The Bachelor of Arts in Geography enables students to understand the spatial processes and patterns of physical and human geography, and the complex interactions between humans and the natural environment. The program prepares students for a variety of career paths, including education, environmental analysis, resource management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Students learn how to apply geospatial technologies to analyze geographic data and address geographic problems. Geography promotes applied and experiential learning, which helps students to understand and work on real-world challenges, such as global climate change and sustainable development

In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Please consult the Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree  section in this catalog for complete information. Students may satisfy some requirements with equivalent coursework taken at other institutions. Courses toward the major must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better. Students are encouraged to take additional geography courses beyond the minimum required for the major.

Credential Information

The bachelor’s degree in geography may be effectively combined with subject matter studies necessary for either the multiple subject teaching credential (K-8) or single subject credential (7-12) in social studies.
