Bachelor of Science in Public Health
(120 UNITS)
The Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health prepares students for careers across a broad spectrum of health-related careers, as well as for those who seek quality preparation for advanced study. Through required coursework, students develop skills and knowledge in environmental health, epidemiology, health systems, program planning, and data analysis and research.
The degree requires 55 units, including 3 units of Upper-Division Writing Requirement, all major courses must be completed with a “C-” (1.7) or better, and must be taken for a letter grade, with the exception of PUBH 349L, which is offered credit/no credit.
Core Requirements (28 units)
Health Education and Promotion Concentration (18 units)
Students in the Health Education and Promotion concentration explores theories and trends in health behaviors of individuals and communities, and learn to apply socioecological-based strategies for health education/promotion program planning, implementation and evaluation, as well as develop and practice skills in critical thinking, problem solving and communication. In addition, a focus on vulnerable populations and cultural competency is emphasized in the coursework to reduce health disparities and promote social justice and health equity.
