Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has granted approval to the Department of Literacy and Reading Education to offer courses to meet requirements for the Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist (RLLS) Credential. The credential authorizes the holder to select and administer reading and literacy assessments, interpret results to determine student growth and identification of struggling students, select interventions, communicate results and provide guidance and coaching to teachers. RLLS Credential holders are also authorized to work as preK-12 specialized literacy professionals at the school, district or county office of education levels.
Those wishing to earn the Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential must make a formal application to the university. In addition, applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Graduate Studies and additional requirements posted on the department website.

The credential is delivered in two formats: 1) face-to-face and hybrid classes; 2) 100 percent online. The following courses are required to complete the credential:
