Bachelor of Science in Public Health*


(120 UNITS)

The Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health prepares students for careers across a broad spectrum of health-related careers, as well as for those who seek quality preparation for advanced study. Through required coursework, students develop skills and knowledge in environmental health, epidemiology, health systems, program planning, and data analysis and research. 

The degree requires 48 units in the major, all of which must be completed with a “C-” (1.7) or better, and must be taken on an Option 1 (letter grade) basis.

General Studies Concentration (18 units)


The B.S. in Public Health, General Studies Concentration provides a foundational undergraduate public health education that can be tailored to the specific interests of students and allows for exploring the multiple dimensions of public health.

Required (9 units)


Any 400-level Health Science (HESC) course not used to fulfill core requirements.

Electives (9 units)


Any 300- or 400-level Health Science (HESC) courses not used to fulfill core requirements or required concentration courses may be used to fulfill 9 units of electives. Up to three units from other departments, listed below, may be used to fulfill elective requirements.

Upper-Division Writing Requirement (3 units)


In order to satisfy the upper-division writing requirement of the university, Public Health majors must pass ENGL 301  or ENGL 360  with a “C” (2.0) or better. Please see additional information provided in this catalog on the writing requirement.

Additional Information


* California State University, Fullerton is conditionally authorized to change the degree title of the Bachelor of Science in Health Science to a Bachelor of Science in Public Health effective fall 2018. This conditional authorization will remain in effect until September 30, 2019. Permanent authorization to offer a B.S. in Public Health is contingent upon the CSU Chancellor’s Office final approval.
