(120 UNITS)
The Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies requires 39 units in the major, including core, breadth and elective courses.
The program is designed for students who have a particular interest in learning more about gender roles and status of women in society. Cross-disciplinary in structure, the major draws from a wide variety of courses offered by many departments throughout the university. Women and Gender Studies majors develop proficiency in a wide variety of research methodologies appropriate to humanities and the social sciences, as well as the areas of business, science and the arts. The goals of the major are to apply concepts learned in Women and Gender Studies courses to other academic areas, to encourage more students to conduct research in the area and to prepare students in selected career paths where sensitivity to women’s issues is important (particularly in business, education, counseling, human services, public administration and the health professions, as well as liberal arts degrees in general).
