MATH 406 - Introduction to Partial Differential Equations (4) First order linear and quasi-linear partial differential equations. Classification of second order linear partial differential equations. Divergence theorem, Green’ identities, Fourier analysis, Sturm-Liouville theory, integral transforms and their application to boundary-value problems for the potential, wave, and diffusion equations.
Prerequisites: MATH 306 or MATH 310 with “C” (2.0) or better; or MATH 250B or MATH 207 with “C” (2.0) or better and 6 units of upper-division MATH, excluding MATH 303A , MATH 303B , MATH 320 , MATH 338 , MATH 380 , MATH 403A , MATH 403B ; or graduate standing.
