Current topics in biotechnology centering on techniques for molecular cloning and DNA sequencing of genes. Medical breakthroughs for diagnosis of mutations and gene therapy. Role of biotechnology in agriculture, energy and environment. Bioethical issues.

Prerequisites: BIOL 251  and BIOL 253L , or BIOL 273 ; BIOL 252  and BIOL 254L , or BIOL 274 . Corequisite: BIOL 412 , CHEM 421  or CHEM 423B . Or graduate standing.
