Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration
The Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration provides a thorough education in the theory and practice of business. The degree provides an understanding of multiple business disciplines, and upon completing the degree, graduates will have the competency to make sound business decisions through effective, evidence-based analysis, interpretation, problem-solving and reasoning. The program emphasizes interpersonal skill-development, including the ability to write and orally communicate ideas and solutions in both business and non-business settings. Students also learn to recognize and apply concepts related to group motivation and conflict. Emphasis is also placed on the skills to use quantitative data, appropriate techniques and models to contextualize, address and analyze business problems and support business decisions. In a global sense, students also learn to understand legal, multicultural, political and ethical issues related to business. In addition to the requirements for the major, students must meet all other university requirements for a bachelor’s degree. Admission to the Business Administration major involves two steps. Students who apply to the major are initially classified as Pre-Business. After completing the lower-division core requirements with a “C” (2.0) or better, students may apply to the Business Administration major.
All of the following requirements must be met for the degree. Students must earn a “C” (2.0) or better in each core course listed below. In concentrations that require ISDS 351, the course must be passed with a “C” (2.0) or better. For assistance in interpreting these requirements, contact the Business Advising Center.
Grades and Residence
Maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average in all college level units attempted, all units attempted at CSUF, all units attempted in the major and all units attempted in the concentration. Earn a “C” (2.0) or better in each core course. A “C-” (1.7) or lower is not a passing grade. Take all required core and concentration courses in the College of Business and Economics for a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F). The exceptions are calculus courses, which may be taken under the Credit/No Credit grading option; however, if it is also taken to meet general education requirements then it must be taken for a letter grade. A minimum 30 units in the major and at least one-half of the units in the concentration (except Accounting, which requires 15) must be taken in residence in the College of Business and Economics; at least 15 of the last 24 units taken before graduation must be in residence in the College of Business and Economics. Real Estate Concentration (27 units)
Real Estate is important to individuals, households, business organizations and the whole society. The concentration spans the broader context of real estate, allowing students to explore its full structure and its role in communities. The program covers real estate principles, finance, valuation, development, market analysis, property management, the legal aspects of real estate investment and real estate economics. It combines and develops the business, analytical and communication skills students gained during their first two years. Graduates of the program will possess the skills required to enter the business world in a wide range of activities: from development and construction to financing; from brokerage and leasing to property management; from appraisal and assessment to insurance and regulation; from research to urban planning, government affairs and more. Must take the 3-unit letter grade option to fulfill the practicum requirement. Experiential Learning (3 units)
